Creative Somerville Series

This speaker series was developed originally as a marketing tactic for a co-working space in Somerville. It brings together creatives and entrepreneurs in design, tech, food and more, hosted at a local brewery. This series, modeled after the concept of ‘fireside chats’ created a new venue of intimate networking and community building in Somerville. Billed as an ‘anti-power point’ speaker series, the talk format focuses on the personal journey of the speaker through an interview format, and an audience Q&A.

The branding and identity of the series is based on the neighborhood’s use of color and diversity.

The design initiatives  office of Enterprise Community Partners, a national affordable housing nonprofit wanted a shareable deliverable on placemaking projects conducted by their fellows. The “recipe book” concept creates an audience-centered experience that put the focus on the replicability of the projects. A number of visualizations capture project impacts and spinoff effects in rigorous, yet playful ways. Real recipes from Oxtail Soup, to Weenie Okazu to Pueblo Bread, give a taste of the projects’ host communities and make the book playful and engaging to audiences.
